COMRADE ADESHINA ADEWALE EXCEL ELECTED NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT COMMISSION OF NIGERIA
In a hotly contested election held today by the Human Rights Report Commission of Nigeria (HRRCN) in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, Comrade Adeshina Adewale Excel, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Oyo State, emerged victorious as the new National President of the HRRCN.
His election marks a significant milestone in his career as a human rights advocate and political figure.
The election, which lasted for over four hours, was a keenly observed event, with 368 accredited delegates participating from all 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Each state had 10 delegates, making a total of 370 expected delegates; however, six were absent for undisclosed reasons. Despite the competitive atmosphere, Comrade Adeshina Adewale Excel triumphed with a substantial lead, garnering 216 votes.
Comrade Adeshina’s nearest rival, Sulaimon Rabiu from Adamawa State, who secured 69 votes, commended the new president’s leadership qualities.
In a display of sportsmanship, Rabiu pledged his support for Comrade Adeshina, describing him as "a man of the people." He further noted that even the North West Region Coordinator had thrown his weight behind Adeshina during the campaign, indicating the broad appeal and respect he commands across the regions.
Third-place candidate, Comrade Ugochukwu Faith, who secured 48 votes, also congratulated Comrade Adeshina Adewale Excel on his victory. Faith expressed confidence in the new president’s ability to deliver on his promises, particularly in the area of promoting human rights and addressing the pressing issues facing Nigerians. He urged the new president to remain committed to his pledge to fight for the masses, especially in the face of the ongoing crises in the country.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Adeshina Adewale Excel expressed his gratitude to all members of the HRRCN for their support. He emphasized the importance of unity in achieving success, noting that his candidacy was made possible by a coalition of support from the South West, South South, and North Central regions. "Unity is key," he said, "and I will not disappoint anyone who believed in me."
Comrade Adeshina further appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider the proposed 10% increase in Value Added Tax (VAT), warning that it could exacerbate the already difficult living conditions for Nigerians. He also called on the National Assembly to hold the Minister of Petroleum and the Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) accountable for their roles in the current economic challenges.
He urged swift action from the government to address the suffering of Nigerians, warning that inaction could lead to greater unrest. “Nigerians are suffering,” he stated passionately. “Please do something now before it turns into something worse.”
The new HRRCN President promised to use his office to fight for human rights, ensuring that the Commission remains a strong voice for justice, fairness, and equality in Nigeria. He reiterated his commitment to promoting transparency and holding public officials accountable for their actions.
Comrade Adeshina Adewale Excel’s victory is seen as a new chapter for the HRRCN, with many hoping his leadership will bring positive changes to the Commission and strengthen its role in advocating for human rights across the nation.
